TYCORUN Powers 1,300-E-Motorcycle Battery-Swap Fleet in Ghana

ACCRA, GHANA — TYCORUN, a one-stop battery swap station solution provider, has completed a fleet-scale electric mobility deployment in Ghana with local project owner Africano Electro: 1,300 electric motorcycles, 3,557 swappable batteries and 87 distributed battery swap cabinets, delivered as one integrated vehicle–battery–cabinet–platform system in approximately six months. The fleet has entered commercial operation serving local logistics and on-demand delivery.

The project is one of the largest battery-swapping deployments for two-wheeled commercial fleets in West Africa, and it arrives as African markets accelerate the shift from petrol motorcycles (known locally as okadas) to electric mobility. An estimated 30 million motorcycles operate as commercial taxis across the continent, nearly all of them still petrol-powered, while the Rocky Mountain Institute projects that up to 60% of new two-wheeler sales in sub-Saharan Africa could be electric by 2040. Demand is already surging: African imports of Chinese electric two- and three-wheelers rose 60% in the first half of 2026 to US$114.6 million, according to trade data reported by The Associated Press.




From Sample Testing to Fleet Delivery in Six Months

Rather than supplying separate hardware products, TYCORUN delivered the complete operating architecture: fleet-spec electric motorcycles, a pooled battery inventory, distributed swap cabinets and PASS, a fleet operating platform designed by TYCORUN and operated locally by Africano Electro.

Sample production and testing of the initial configuration was completed and passed in roughly 24 days. The batteries, swap cabinets, motorcycles and the PASS platform were then run together end-to-end for about two months before the full fleet order was placed — validation of the complete system, not just the vehicle. Full production and delivery took approximately six months, with two TYCORUN engineers deployed on the ground in Ghana to support commissioning, operator training and early-stage operation.

The network is sized as a circulating energy system: roughly 2.7 batteries per motorcycle and 15 motorcycles per cabinet. At any moment packs are on a bike being ridden, charging in a cabinet, or ready to exchange, which decouples vehicle uptime from charging time and keeps delivery riders on the road during working hours.



Built Around the Economics of African Delivery

Battery swapping addresses the two constraints that slow electrification for commercial riders: long charging downtime and the high daily cost of petrol. With Ghanaian pump prices running above GH¢16 per litre as of September 2026 under the National Petroleum Authority's two-week pricing windows, the per-kilometer energy cost of an electric motorcycle can be more than 60% lower than petrol based on modeled local fuel and electricity prices as of the same period. A shared battery pool also removes the battery purchase from the rider's upfront cost, converting it into a pay-as-you-ride operating expense.



Electric Mobility as Local Employment Infrastructure

The fleet's purpose is social as well as commercial: it creates delivery jobs for young people and university graduates as part of a youth-employment mobility initiative, with the swapping network supplying the daily energy behind the operation.
